Here's how the turning myself in went down. I had spent the evening at my Aunties house. She is an Aunt from my adoptive family, so she is Caucasian. She offered to drive me downtown to do this business. I woke up that day and got dressed in some big, dark blue sweatpants and a large green sweatshirt with a brown bear on the front. I went out to the kitchen and my Aunt looked at me and said, "is that what your wearing?" She thought that it would be better if I wore the form-fitting, light blue jeans and purple and brown horizontal striped top that I'd worn the day before. I like to travel light, so these two outfits were the only clothes I had to choose from. I said I didn't want to take a chance because I did not know how they would receive me and would not be surprised if they were to throw me in cells all day, into the drunk tank, even. I would be too cold in a pair of jeans for that. I had a feeling that I might be OK because Aunty had said she would go in there and wait with me but I simply could not take a chance.
We were in the waiting area for less than an hour. I was nervous because nothing was happening. Then, an officer came and called out my name. I went into a small, beige room with him. There was only a big, wooden desk and two chairs in there. He arrested me and read me my rights. He gave me some release papers and I think a Promise To Appear. This all took under ten minutes. I was relieved for it all to go so smoothly! Thanks Aunty! High five!
I was home by late suppertime!
Thanks for the prayers!
Now for court.
