Thirsty Thursday #12

Welcome! Next Thursday Lisa's Sober Blog will be a year old. I used to post here everyday at the start. After a time of indecision and uncertainty about the blog this past summer I continued writing here every Thursday. I began writing here when I was six months sober. I am sober a year and a half; my last drink on September 20, 2013.

It's been a satisfying experience sobering up. I didn't always think that. There were times when I had all but given up hope when I was in the midst of my addiction. I was sick. I was scared. It wasn't the easiest thing to sober up. I almost quit trying for it.

I went to treatment for alcoholism several times and spend long hours with the psychologist and the psychiatrist. I have talked at length with lawyers when I was in trouble with the law due to drinking who inadvertently counselled my alcoholism using their logic and skill. None of this kept me sober for long.

In writing the blog I have had an enjoyable experience so far. I was at a public function when a lady came up to me and said, "I read your blog, Lisa." That was cool. Nobody had said to me that they were a practicing alcoholic and read it yet.

If any who long for sobriety would be able to read the blog and have hope of lasting and long-term sobriety then that would be great, too.

I am still picking up the pieces after the complete and total devastation that alcoholism exacted in my life. There is much left to be done; many amends yet.

I hope my story will be inspirational to some. I thought that if I could get sober and talk about it that I could make an impression on others who would do the same.

Thank you for reading.

It's Going To Be Ok

Here's what's been happening the past week or so since I started just posting step-chat meetings. I've been feeling a little stressed. A family member is facing homelessness. A family member is in hospital after a bad fall off a roof. A family member is missing. These very human issues are stacked up with all the usual issues which are happening all the time.

The issues which happen all the time include addiction in the family, family members jailed, family members homeless, in poverty, and with mental health problems. These new issues pose more serious problems to my own mental health. I have practically been worried sick. I have never been sober and making calm rational decisions before. Usually when I feel the stress building up it's flight for me.

I wake up in the morning as usual and then all these troubles come flooding back and I just get a lump in my throat like my heart is right there and that's where I've been starting out my day.

(I had been worried about my son before all of this and I'm just so grateful that I've got him here at home with me because I wouldn't like to also be worried about him as well.)

Here's the thing, though, I have no control over all of these things which are happening. I would normally just go and drink, drug or fall into other unhealthy Lisa ways. Now I'm with the mantra~ It's going to be ok. It's going to be ok. It's going to be ok.

Thank you for checking out the blog!
